Below is a list of local and fruity beers to try next. But, believe it or not, for the longest time, I was never really a beer girl. I would have my typical mimosas, Jacob’s Creek and Girls Night Out. Those are what I stuck to throughout university. I assumed that beer was heavy, dark and honestly… just gross. Then I was introduced to a strawberry flavoured beer at a microbrewery and it changed my life. Maybe you can relate to this?
During this global pandemic, I started becoming more and more informed about how important it is to support local businesses. Now, when I go into LCBO (with my mask on of course), I look to purchase local and fruity beers with pretty designs. I’ve turned it into a game of which designs I find most appealing and I find it quite fun.
Current Favourites
1. Railway City Orange Creamsic Ale
Whenever I hear the word “creamsicle” it brings me back to my childhood. I think of those orange popsicles that I was obsessed with in the summer. I envision my tiny self in the backyard salivating and having the popsicle drip down my shirt. This beer brings me back to that.
2. Collective Arts Mango Tangerine Sour
I can’t take the credit for finding this. It was recommended to me by a colleague. I soon tried it out and fell in-love. It has the right amount of sour. The bursting flavour of mango is quite amazing.
3. Brock Street Brewing Strawberry Blonde
This reminds me of picking strawberries in the field with my dad. Picture this, you have a sundress and sunhat on. You are amidst that fresh and sweet smell. Amplify it by one hundred in beer form.
I think it is pretty great to support local businesses. Sometimes when life gets busy or we are too focused on following the lives of people in other countries, we forget how beautiful it is where we already are. To look up how you can support local breweries, click here.
My message to you is, if you enjoy light and fruity drinks, don’t turn away from beer altogether. There are many beers out there, you just have to experiment and eventually you will find the ones meant for you. Take it from me, once you try, you’d be pleasantly surprised.
