Lately I have been on the hunt for perfect staycation ideas that are safe and which adhere by social distancing guidelines. Recently, I was lucky enough to stay at The Wakefield Treehouse. I have never stayed in a treehouse before, but it has always been on my bucket list. Now, I can finally say that I have checked this off!
The Wakefield Treehouse
The Wakefield Treehouse was nothing short of a wonderful stay. This cozy treehouse is located in Wakefield, Québec. I found it randomly one night while scrolling through Airbnb. It has great reviews and seems to be booked all year round. Because of this, you have to act fast. The host was very kind. If you are able to secure a reservation now and go during the fall season, driving to get to the treehouse is very serene and beautiful. The landscape filled with orange, red and brown leaves looks like a painting.
The treehouse is built in a residential neighbourhood, but it is on private property that is fairly distanced from others. The check-in process is contactless and very simple. As you walk through the front door, you quickly notice that it has some sort of whimsical feel. The place is very open yet safe at the same time. One floor has a little hideout area with cushions which is perfect for cuddling, reading and taking in the view. There is also a bathroom with a shower that is spacious and clean. On the top level, there are 2 beds, a kitchen that is fully equipped, an eating area, a couch, heated floors and a little deck with a gorgeous view. They also have wineglasses if you wish to treat yourself. There is no need for you to bring a blanket as they have some available.
I will warn you, there is no WiFi or television. I believe that they designed it like this on purpose. You can still use your data though. I appreciated this a lot as it allows you to connect with whomever you are staying with and kind of be off the grid, away from any distractions.
Overall, the treehouse was very unique. I highly recommend to book a one night stay here and bring drinks, snacks, books and boardgames. You would not regret it. It is simple, yet magical and something that can be easy to plan during these strange times. Although, if any suggestions could be made, I think a hot tub and/or fire pit would make this place superb. I genuinely think that this is a great getaway to consider during the pandemic, if you can get away and splurge a little. The host had appropriate guidelines in place. If you are waiting until the pandemic is over, then I suggest you keep this on your radar and consider it down the road. It is a short drive to great trails, pubs and cafés which you could plan to visit when it is safer to do so.
After I had posted pictures about my stay on Instagram and Facebook, so many people asked me where this is. I am actually quite surprised that it took me this long to find out about it. I will warn you however, that once you stay, you may get treehouse fever and end up wanting to build your own! After staying here, it has inspired me to look at other treehouses across the world. This experience has also encouraged me to do some research on places to stay that aren’t your average or generic hotels. Moving forward, I am going to look at places that are quirky and special. I can’t wait to plan more trips like this, especially once the pandemic is over.
PS, my date and I truly had a great time. It can be quite romantic. But, this would also be something great to experience alone, so don’t let that be something that stops you from booking.
