Celebrating Your Birthday During Covid-19

Your twenty-fifth birthday, in my opinion, is a big deal. Firstly, you’re halfway to through your twenties and secondly, you’re a quarter of a century old. That’s a lot to celebrate and I refused to let Covid-19 stop me. So when I celebrated my birthday last Monday, I went all out and it actually was one of the best birthday I’ve had in a long time.

I know a lot of people like me (and my son) are going to have or already have had their birthday’s ruined by Covid-19 but you don’t have to let it spoil all your fun. That’s why I’m sharing my tips on how I made it a great birthday, without breaking any social distancing rules. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or a special event, these tips will help you!

Cake or Cupcakes

It’s not a birthday without cake, or cupcakes, if a cake is not your thing. You can order from a local business or make them at home! I personally made my own vanilla mini cake and had so much fun doing it (check out the recipe here). You can take it one step further and do a photoshoot with an adult smash cake. Don’t forget to sing happy birthday and blow out your candles (we could all use a wish).

Invite Friends and Family

Don’t worry, I’m definitely not suggesting you break the rules. Instead, invite friends and family to come to visit you throughout the day while keeping their distancing. It will stretch the day out and make your birthday more exciting. For the significant other’s, organize a parade or zoom call with their friends and family, it’s a fun way to involve everyone and make them feel special. I personally had my friends visit throughout the day, but also organized a happy hour with friends where we were all able to stay physically distant.

Dinner

Some people like low key birthdays, and look forward to celebrating with dinner. So if this is you, order takeout from your favourite restaurant, many restaurants are doing curb-side pick up or delivery. Get out there and support your favourite local biz! Another option is to cook your favourite meal at home or maybe have your your spouse on cooking duty and you can enjoy a celebratory glass of wine. This is just another small way to make your birthday feel special and not like a regular day.

Do Something you Love

With so many places closed for the public, it can be difficult to do something you love, but don’t let that discourage you. There are plenty of small things that you love that you can do to celebrate your special day. For me, baking a cake and having a dance party with my son was my special way to relax and celebrate. You can also read, go for a walk, or play a board game, whatever is going to make you happy. Another suggestion is to watch your baby videos, it’s the perfect way to celebrate you.

Don’t let Covid-19 ruin your birthday festivities, use these simple tips to make sure you have an amazing (physically distanced) birthday. However, you choose to celebrate, whether it’s a quiet night or a zoom call with your family, know that when it’s over you can have a huge party with family and friends.
