Meet Kate Bartz

P&SCo Featured Contributor Kate Bartz April 2021

It’s April ladies and you know the drill, so here is our featured contributor of the month – you’ll be getting to meet our very own Kate Bartz! Kate is one of the co-founders of PSCO, you’ve probably read her piece on ways to make friends as an adult or her underachievers guide to quarantine. Also before you get into the Q&A’s with Kate don’t forget to check out this months tech downloads here.

Without further ado, meet Kate Bartz!

Name or nickname if you have one:

Kate or Katie (fun fact, I actually go by my middle name).

Zodiac sign:

Leo (I don’t know much about zodiac signs but from what I do know, I am a total Leo).

Where do you live and what do you do?

Split my time between Toronto, Ontario and a little town near London, Ontario.

What is your dream career/career goal or ambition?

Business and life coach

What makes you feel pretty and smart/what does it mean to you?

2020 taught me a lot about “inner glow.” Whether it be the glow that comes from doing a good deed, taking exceptional care of your skin, or going for a walk, my definition of what makes me feel pretty has evolved a lot in the past year!

2020 was a BUMPY year! Somehow near the second lockdown after Christmas, our family FINALLY got into a really good grove. I started getting up at 5 a.m and establishing any amazing morning routine. The morning routine makes me feel SMART and invincible.

One piece of advice to your younger self:

1. Progress over perfection
2. small positive changes compounded will accumulate and change your life. Stop feeling like you need BIG leaps to achieve your dreams. Just try to be a little better than you were the day before.

Who would you say is your biggest role model or icon (fashion, career, fitness, personal or otherwise):

My role models changes in each stage of life. I am currently REALLY inspired by IT Cosmetics founder, Jamie Kern Lima and can’t recommend her new book enough! She embodies grit and doing the right thing.

What you’re reading/watching/listening to:

This is such a great question. If you were to ask my siblings they would say “anything that was cool 15 years ago.” I am currently watching LOST and reading Atomic Habits.

Favourite thing in your closet right now?

What pair of tights and hoodie should I wow my dogs with today?

Next place you hope to travel to near or far (when it’s safe of course)?

Disney. I am obsessed.

Best word to describe you and why?

Resilience. It doesn’t matter what comes my way, I will always figure it out.

What is your fitness or wellness routine?

Such a great question. I have been on some sort of bed rest for a month due to vertigo and so when I am allowed to safely resume physical activity it will be stretching, yoga, and walks. However, you can’t outrun a for, so right now I am focusing on what I CAN control and that is my nutrition. My body doesn’t do well with gluten. When you cut out gluten you have to plan what you eat a bit more so, the planning cuts out mindless eating.

What is your favorite thing to write about?

Finding humour and a positive spin on seemingly less-than-ideal situations.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Going to bed early!

Favourite quote:

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
~Aristotle

What is your favourite piece you’ve written for PSCO?

The Underachiever’s Guide to Isolation.

Where can people find you online? What is your handle?

@politicalwifelife on Instagram
