Mother’s Day At A Distance

Mother's Day- Natalie and Baby

Not everyone gets to be with their mum on Mother’s Day. While in previous years, this may have been a snub, you’re doing dear mum a favour by keeping your distance. That doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate though! There are a million ways to show mum you care without having to be nearby. Check out these ideas for thoughtful Mother’s Day gifts during social distancing.

Mother’s Day Photo Album

Mother's Day

Even though you can’t go to the store and get your photos printed, you can still create a thoughtful photo album for your mum. Just compile a series of photos she would enjoy and create a Mother’s Day album on Facebook . Get your siblings in on the action too! Upload the album late at night so it will be there for her first thing in the morning. Bonus points if you can print the photos and give her a hard-copy later.

Have Dinner ‘Together’

Pick her favorite dinner and make it together in your separate locations, then sit down and share the meal over a video call. This is a great way to get the whole family in on a celebration. To add to your fun, compare the differences in how each of you made the dish, or use an old family recipe and see whose rendition is best.

Mother’s Day Photo Recreation

Try recreating a childhood photo of you and your mother with your baby. Natalie gave it a try, and we love the adorable results. This inter-generational photo is sure to make her smile! No kids? Substitute your furry friend for a fun alternative.

Plant a Seed for Mother’s Day

No, literally. Plant a seed and send your mother pictures of its growth. Any plant-lover will be over-the-moon about this thoughtful gift. Write your mum a sweet note about how you’ll take care of it until you can see her again. That way, she’ll know you’re taking time to think of her each day! Even if you don’t have a green thumb, there’s lots of help online. Take a look at this list for ideas!

Bake up Something Tasty

If you and your family like to cook, take this opportunity to get creative. Use what you know about your mother to create a recipe she’ll love, then write it down, give it a cute name, and send it her way. Just plan well in advance to avoid unnecessary trips to the store. Check out our post on pantry essentials for tips on shopping during a pandemic.

Cookies - Mother's Day
Overall, the gift of time and effort is the sweetest thing you can give. You know your mother best, and we’re sure she’ll understand if your regular celebrations are off the table. Social distancing won’t stop us from showing our mothers we care. Family is stronger than that, and always will be.

Happy mothers day to all you mamas out there!
