As the weather gets warmer, fitness fads flood social media timelines. Although extreme trends and diets including “75 Hard” and the “Master Cleanse” can be tempting, there are far more sustainable and nourishing ways to introduce fitness and healthy lifestyle choices into your Summer 2025. Here are some of my best suggestions for a healthier summer!
Optimize the Warm Weather

Warm weather and long periods of sunlight instantly make fitness more accessible. Whether you choose a walk outside, day drip to a nearby park or hiking spot, or take advantage of a local public pool, beautiful weather is a sure incentive to stay active outside. If you want to hone your skills in a specific movement practice, simply bring your yoga mat, TRX straps or set of dumbbells outside for a set in the sun to make the most of the season! Use some of the tips found in this Guide to At Home Workouts to inspire your outdoor fitness!
Adding Fitness to Your Summer Plans
In a season filled with day drinking and poolside lounging, outdoor activities and games offer a playful and social way to keep fitness part of the fun while soaking up the sun. Try games like pool volleyball, bocce ball, spike ball, or even a corn hole toss- they’re simple, inexpensive, and easy for everyone to join. You can also incorporate additional movement to your summer plans by choosing to walk instead of using a cart while golfing, riding bikes to grab an ice cream, or challenging your partner to a game of tennis or pickle ball.
Ignore the Fitness Fads

The summer months often bring unrealistic body expectations and standards. Trying to meet the pressures of what you are meant to look and feel like when wearing less can feel unattainable and overwhelming. However, hyper-fixating on spot-reducing fat is a fitness obsession that is not only exhausting, but impossible. Although online tutorials demonstrate ab exercises targeting lower belly fat and leg workouts aimed at reducing cellulite, these videos are often focused more on views than providing effective results. Instead, try a full-body practice (like this pilates workout or this HIIT workout ) to gain and tone muscle, improve cardiovascular health, and strengthen your entire body as one healthy unit, rather than a collection of parts. Most importantly, remember that your “summer body” is the body that you are already in, not the one that you believe you should have.
Water, Water, Water

Although staying hydrated is not just a summer concern, the additional heat, sun, and sweat should cause for a serious increase in your water consumption. Drinking enough water is not only important for regular bowel movements and protecting muscles and tissues, but it will also prevent dehydration and fuel your workouts. On especially sweaty days, incorporate additional electrolytes into your water to aid in replenishing and maintaining hydration levels. It’s best to keep your water bottle full, on you at all times, and filled with ice this summer!
Summer-Inspired Healthy Recipes

To supplement your new fitness routine, incorporating healthy, summer recipes is a refreshing way to add nutrients, vegetables, and whole foods to your diet. Take advantage of seasonal produce and outdoor barbecuing, while experimenting with new ingredients to spice up your summer dinners. For some inspiration, try this link for 59 Healthy Summer Recipes!
