The Makeup Brand That is Heads Above the Rest
I have always been a makeup fiend, but I didn’t find the my perfect brand that worked perfectly for me until I was an adult.
My love affair with makeup started when I was 13 and got my first lip smackers kit for Christmas. I didn’t wear much makeup as a teen, but I loved to collect it, organize it and experiment with different looks. In my 20’s, I was all about MAC makeup. I adored visiting their stands at the department stores and trying all the different eyeshadow and lipstick colours.
Then I discovered Sephora, which exposed me to a wide variety of makeup lines like Kat Von D, Tarte and Urban Decay. I had my favourites from many lines and my makeup collection was definitely all over the place.
Finding the Holy Grail
Last summer, at age 35, I learned about the holy grail of makeup lines: Charlotte Tilbury.
And let me tell you – I have been hooked ever since. For those who don’t know, Charlotte Tilbury is a UK makeup artist who got her start doing looks for the stars. Her makeup line is definitely part of the luxury makeup market but is lower in price point than other luxury makeup brands like Chanel, Dior or Tom Ford. You can find it at Sephora, Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew. It is pricey, but worth the investment. Her products last and the quality is excellent. I am definitely a Charlotte Tilbury evangelist and have to admit that since I discovered her, my other well-loved makeup has been collecting dust in the back of my bathroom cabinets.
Top 3 Reasons Why Charlotte Tilbury Makeup is Superior
Here are the top 3 things that make Charlotte Tilbury the number one makeup brand in my eyes:
- Pigments: Charlotte Tilbury is known for her colour pigments. She has a colour and look for every skin shade. I am very fair and find it hard to locate colours that aren’t “too much” for my complexion. She has beautiful peachy, pink and coral pigments which work really well for me.
- Formulas: Charlotte Tilbury hands down has the best lipstick formulas out there, from matte to ultra glossy. I prefer a creamy formula so I go for her non-matte lipsticks, which glide on perfectly smooth and have a lovely subtle vanilla smell.
- Packaging: When it comes to a luxury brand, I expect the packaging to have a wow factor. Many of Charlotte Tilbury’s lipsticks and palettes come in gorgeous gold packaging which looks so beautiful in your makeup collection. Some of her lipsticks also have fun packaging like animal prints and rhinestones. I love things that are ultra-glam so this appeals to me.
If you are new to luxury makeup brands and are a bit nervous about making the investment, do not fear! I took advantage of Black Friday sales and the Nordstrom anniversary sale to grow my Charlotte Tilbury collection.
Probably my favourite piece in my collection is the filmstar bronze and glow. This is the first bronzer I have ever been able to wear on my fair complexion that actually looks like a natural sun glow. I also love her famous pillow-talk collection. The pigments are subtle, flattering and perfect for everyday wear.
