Five Cookbooks Worth Revisiting

Looking for a cookbook but don’t know where to start? Or maybe, you have a few already and you just don’t know which ones have what you need. Look no further, here are five cookbooks worth revisiting. And hey, I know some of these are old but I promise they are totally worth it.

1. The Classic Italian Cook Book

Without Marcella Hazan’s masterpiece Italian food would be pizza and red sauce (not that there’s anything wrong with that).  But Hazan’s book introduced us to a wide range or regional Italian specialties and the importance of high quality ingredients.  Try “Tomato Sauce III” or her great Osso Buco.

2. The Original Fannie Farmer

(originally published as The Boston Cooking School Cookbook) by Fanny Farmer (later editions edited by Marion Cunningham, 1896 (first edition).

The various editions of the books have recipes for everything you can imagine.  At Christmas time pull it out to make edible gifts such as toffy, peanut brittle, and dark fruit cake.

3. Entertaining, Martha Stewart

This book started an empire! Do you need to know how to make a buffet for 200 or an elaborate Russian feast or Chinese banquet? Of course not, but read this for ideas for out of the box parties like a kitchen soup party or omelette party and for great recipes.

4. The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, Ina Garten

The first book in the series was released 20 years ago, and Garten has been a staple in our kitchens ever since.  The “outrageous brownies” are legendary. Plus everyone should know how to roast a chicken for their lover.

5. Mastering the Art of French Cooking Julia Child, Simone Beck, Louisette Bertholle

This book changed the world. Without Child’s tome, how would Americans eat today?  Swanson dinners and Campbell Soup no doubt.

This book piqued our interests in foods that were new to us (an oldie but a goodie). It’s still a classic and you should try the boeuf bourguignon, onion soup, and ratatouille.

That’s it, that’s all, there are the five cookbooks worth revisiting. Now you’re set for hosting a perfect dinner party. Even if these aren’t for you, you can totally pick one up for the foodie in your life (Christmas is just around the corner)!
