Podcasts are all the rage these days. Whether you listen to them religiously or passively I am sure they are in some way a part of your rotation. In a content dense universe I have listened to MANY so you don’t have to. I tend to listen to anything behavioural economics or productivity related. Socio economics is another area of interest, but I do venture out. I also enjoy listening to podcasts that ask questions and provoke my line of thinking. Today, I put together a list of a few I’m listening to and enjoyed enough to recommend. I used to listen to podcasts on my commute, now I tend to just listen to them anytime I have a spare minute or while walking the dog.
Freakonomics
Freakonomics “Discover the hidden side of everything” hosted by Stephen Dubner, is in my weekly rotation of podcasts. This podcast comes out every Thursday – be forewarned there isn’t always new content they sometimes post reruns. I, having listened to this podcast for several years now and upset by this, but if you have not listened to them before I’m sure you won’t mind. There are always interesting perspectives, sometimes I agree other times I do not, regardless I am left knowing something I did not know before. Some episodes talk about current events or economic forecasts, others talk about personal finance and productivity. There is something for everyone here. This is by far my favourite podcast, the content is high quality, thought provoking and you can thank me later. There are also some Freakonomics books you should check out (here) if you’re more into old school reading than this new age podcast thing.
No Stupid Questions
Anyone who knows me, knows I will not shut up about Angela Duckworth. The reason I actually got hooked on Freakonomics in the first place was because of Angela Duckworth. No Stupid Questions is a spin off of Freakonomics co-hosted by Stephen Dubner and Angela Duckworth. So really it is everything I’ve ever wanted in a podcast. They are only a few episodes in so if you do binge them (and I’m telling you, odds are you will) you’ll be left waiting until Thursday’s episodes are released. Join the club. If you liked my post on Grit, or books to level up your career, you are going to love this podcast.
Stuff You Should Know
Pretty self explanatory, Stuff You Should Know is a pretty interesting podcast that covers well … stuff you should know. The subject matter is varied everywhere from “How Landfills Work” to “How Dogs Perceive Time.” I’m not sure that everything is necessarily “should know” but maybe it’ll teach you something that’ll make you less boring at dinner parties. Check it out if you aspire to be an asset to your trivia team.
Great Women of Business
This is a really interesting podcast that will bode well with the P&S Co. ladies. They go over how women shove their way into business and break down barriers to become executives. There are episodes talking about Coco Chanel, Martha Stewart and the brands they’ve built. What I like about this podcast is that every episode features a woman in business and a lesson you can learn from them, for example “Martha Stewart – Commitment to Quality” or Coco Chanel “The Art of Branding.” Check this one out ladies.
Hopefully you find something here that piques your interest. If you do happen to like these recommendations get in touch in the comments below. I would love to hear what you’re listening to. Also for your convenience I have linked each of these podcasts to spotify so just click on the titles of each to check them out. If you use anything other than spotify, you are on your own my friend, sorry to force you to go analog and have to use the search function.
