My Skincare Routine for Clearer Skin

skincare

I can honestly say that since giving birth to my son, my skin has never looked better! I made a promise to myself not to allow my skin to transition from pregnancy “glow” to postpartum “lord, oh no.” So I made the personal decision to invest in my skincare routine and let me tell you, it has made all the difference. Listen, your girl has come a long way since using St. Ives apricot scrub (hands up if you’ve also been personally victimized by this scrub).

I’ve always hated that skincare products come with some serious price tags and would only last me a month. This is why I swore by my apricot scrub for so long; it was cheap, it came in a huge bottle, and it had an exfoliant, so it must work…right? Honestly, I wish I had come to the realization that in order to get the skin that I want and to maintain a healthy glow, higher-end name brand products are a must. When in doubt, I always go back to this quote when I am struggling with spending money on my skincare I remember that “your skincare routine is an investment.”

Listed below are the specific products that I use and the order that I apply them within my own routine. I always recommend trying to find products that best suit your skin and its personal needs. Remember, what works for me might not necessarily work the same for you. However, these are products that I absolutely swear by, especially if you have a combination and sensitive skin type like me!

NOTE: All products are linked in the titles.

Face Wash: Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser by First Aid Beauty

You might start to notice a trend within this post as I absolutely love First Aid Beauty products. I have noticed the biggest difference in my complexion since I began to use them. A facial cleanser is obviously extremely important, so it is important to find one that works for your skin.  When you have a child who is constantly touching every object around him and then proceeding to touch your face, you desperately need a deep clean. That’s why I love this product for a facial cleanser. Deep clean is literally in the title!

Toner: Facial Radiance Pads by First Aid Beauty

Toner, the product that you had heard of but never thought you needed. Listen, when I tell you how wrong I was and that it is one of the most crucial steps that you should not skip. I had never tried a toner until my friend, who is a professional esthetician told me its purpose. Among many benefits, toner corrects and balances the pH of the skin and helps control acne! I began using Phytomer’s Rose Water by applying it on a microfibre makeup wipe and while I still love it, I find that the Facial Radiance Pads from First Aid Beauty are more convenient for my always on-the go lifestyle.

Serum: Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum by First Aid Beauty

I received this product when I ordered a tester box that First Aid Beauty was offering and I absolutely loved it. As I have combination skin, it can get super dry in the winter months and this helps give it a boost of extra hydration. If you are trying to shop smart, it’s a product that you do not necessarily need unless you also live through Canadian winters and understand the feeling of clinging to extra hydration!

Moisturizer: Skin Lightening Cream by Bella B Glowing

This may be the final step to my skincare routine depending on my agenda for that day. When I was pregnant I signed up for a Bump Box subscription and found this hidden gem within it. It is a moisturizer made for pregnant women, but is available for anyone to use! If you find your skin needs to be brightened, definitely check out this product. It has made a world of difference on my skin, allowing it to look glowy and hydrated. A bonus is that this cream is also free from harsh-chemicals and any bleaching agents!

Primer: Banana Bright Face Primer by Ole Henriksen

THIS PRIMER IS EVERYTHING! I have tested out so many primers and so far, this is the one that I swear by. It helps smooth and even your skin’s complexion and can be paired with only mascara and brows for a simple go-to look. However, if you want your makeup to look even more flawless, buy this product!

If you had asked me before investing in these products, buying name brand was too expensive for the amount that you receive. Yet, I wish I had learned how important it is to take care of our skin and how our actions as we age will affect our overall health in the long-run. Learn your skin’s type and invest now before it’s too late. While I recommend these products, all skin is different! So I urge you to research and find what nutrients are best needed for your skin type. Also remember to give your products a month or two. Don’t be quick to deem them a waste of money. It takes time to see the results you’re looking for! Alternatively, sometimes all your skin needs is to de-stress, so check out Casey’s blog on Spring Cleaning Your Mind (Here).
