Snacks That Are Safe for Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies

Today, I am here to help you with a list of snacks that are safe for peanut and tree nut allergies.

Allergies

Growing up, I was the one in school known as the girl with the *deadly* peanut and tree nut allergy. Better yet, I am not allergic to just peanuts and tree nuts, but to soy and legumes too. I am always looking for alternatives that provide me with healthy fats and proteins that various nuts or even chickpeas offer. Perhaps you have this severe allergy too, or someone in your family does? Maybe you’re the mom preparing lunches during the week that are considered safe for school? Either way, I have you covered.

Full disclosure, before we start, I do eat products even if they have the “may contain peanuts and/or tree nuts” messaging on them. This continues to work for me, however I will only share items that are strictly made in a peanut free facility.

Now, I understand allergies aren’t simple. Some people are deadly allergic, while others just have intolerances. Some are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and dairy, some are allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and seeds.. so you get my point. I am not allergic to seeds, so some items below include seeds. Either way, the main website that I am linking has options for everyone and I highly encourage you to explore it, use appropriate filters and read the ingredient lists accordingly.

One last note, I do realize that these aren’t the healthiest of items. Of course, the best type of snacks for your body would be something like plain Greek yoghurt with blueberries, or carrots with a red pepper dip. For healthier ideas, check out Alex’s take on healthy snacks. But, I love what I have listed below and they’re fairly convenient. So, let’s begin!

Suggestions

1. Sunbutter Organic Sunflower Seed Spread Unsweetened
This product is a life changer. I enjoy it two different ways the most. For breakfast, I like to spread it on whole-grain toast, followed by a sliced banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon and then a drizzle of honey on top. For lunch, I like to spread it between whole-grain bread with raspberry chia jam (it’s like a healthy peanut butter and jelly sandwich).

2. Enjoy Life Energy Bites Dipped Banana
I really like to have a few of these bites either with a smoothie for breakfast, or as a small snack between breakfast and lunch. They help to keep me satiated while on the go. I like that they are made with roasted pumpkin seeds.

3. MadeGood Chocolate Banana Organic Granola Minis
Next, I like to have these either at my desk, or in my purse when I am travelling. They are perfectly sweet and crunchy and also taste just like banana bread. This company makes great granola bars and cookies in other awesome flavours, too. I highly suggest that you try many of them!

4. Nosh & Co. Premium Artisanal Chocolate Chip Cookies
You know when you just want a chocolate chip cookie that has a nice balance between both soft and crispy textures? These aren’t ordinary cookies. They really do taste artisanal and I am here for it!

5. Shasha Organic Spelt Ginger Snaps
You must know, I am truly a grandma at heart. What I mean by this is that, after work, I really like to relax and get cozy under a blanket with a cup of tea and a light snack (around 7pm). These ginger snaps have just the right amount of a gingery taste, and they aren’t too sweet.

6. Skinny Pop Sea Salt and Black Pepper
Moving along, I really love this popcorn. It is both light and flavourful. I honestly prefer it over popcorn from the movie theatres. It is healthier, and doesn’t have any questionable additives. I don’t ever feel any guilt when snacking on this!

7. Mary’s Organic Crackers Everything Super Seed Crackers
I love to create charcuterie boards, but I am not a fan of filling them with crackers that are plain or essentially taste like chalk. I love a cracker that is thin, crunchy, flavourful and packed with seeds. These organic crackers really do it for me. I like to eat them with pieces of sharp cheddar, or topped with goat cheese and red pepper jelly.

All of these options listed above are sold from the trusty Canadian website, well.ca. Scroll through and take a look at all of their different categories. They have so many snacks that are safe for peanut and tree nut allergies. You can adjust the filters easily to find exactly what is best for you.

Other then this website, if you live in America, I recommend 88 ACRES. They have delicious bars that you can easily grab and take with you. My favourite is their Spiced Cranberry Orange Seed Bars.

Are you hungry now? I am.. so it’s off to the kitchen I go. I sincerely hope that this list of snacks that are safe for peanut and tree nut allergies was helpful. If you have any of your own peanut and tree nut free treats that you recommend, please reach out and let me know, I would love to hear about them. Happy snacking!
