Winter Bucket List

I have curated this little winter bucket list for those of us who are looking for something to do this time of year that don’t take up a whole ton of time, effort or planning, but still make for a nice family outing or date (of course check with your local restrictions first to be safe because depending on where you live they vary). Seems too good to be true doesn’t it. But the truth is there are actually quite a few things you can do (while respecting health and safety restrictions) and I have put them together for you so you don’t have to spend a bunch of time thinking about the next activity. Low and behold my winter bucket list, because yes, winter is not as great as summer but I’m more of a glass half full kind of gal so let’s focus on the good stuff.

Skating

A winter bucket list classic of course. Head out to a local outdoor rink, lake or pond and enjoy. Skating is a fun way to get in some outdoor exercise and have a lot of laughs. Unfortunately for me these laughs are often at my expense (not exactly graceful) but still fun to do. Of course afterwards there is always hot chocolate (we will get to hot chocolate bombs later).

Movies fireside

The best way to spend cold winter days is curled up by the fire watching a nice flick. Depending on your family the content will vary but the most important thing here is a cozy blanket, people who make your heart feel warm and a toasty fireplace. If the movie is up to me it’s probably a rom com. We have a few watch lists around the blog you can check out here if you need some inspiration.

Tobogganing

We’re still at the point in the season where snow is not entirely loathed so let’s embrace it. Plus, I’m not going to recommend a bunch of indoor activities just because there’s a foot of snow and it’s freezing out. Pull out the toboggans, sleds or saucers and hit a hill nearby. Of course depending on your risk appetite the size of the hill will look different but you definitely don’t have to be a kid to do this.

Hot chocolate bombs

I am pretty big on these, along with the rest of the internet. For anyone living under a rock hot chocolate bombs are chocolate shells filled with chocolate and marshmallows (name a better combo). Froth up some milk and pour over one of these sweet chocolatey bombs and you’ve got yourself a warm cup of cocoa to enjoy. There are so many local businesses making these right now, Coco’s Cookies in Orillia for example sells them. Or maybe you’re a little more ambitious and want to try making them with your family. Either way super yummy and a good thing add to your bucket list.

Board games

Please let me just say I was into chess before Queen’s Gambit. If you haven’t watched it, watch it, but you probably already have. Secondly, I can’t even believe this is something I am bragging about right now.

Board games are a fun way to spend some time with you loved ones (minus monopoly that never ends well). A good old fashioned card game is also fun for the whole family. Plus nobody knows how to play cards anymore and that’s kind of sad. If cards are really not your thing, you could also play the game of LIFE because there really is nothing quite like spinning a wheel to determine your occupation, the new dog you’ve adopted, or the quadruplets that are joining you in your car. Trivia is also a good option, especially when prizes are involved. Whatever you decide to do this winter bucket list item is going to keep you feeling warm and also give you some solace from screen time.

So that’s it that’s all. Get out there and make some memories. If you’re looking at a few ways to stay active this winter you should check out Alex’s post here. Have a happy time checking things off this winter bucket list.
